Bio
In theatre we can take the essence of something beautiful - sadness, a nostalgic melody, a feather floating in the air – and put a frame around it. We are constantly surrounded by magic when we take the time to notice.
Allison Frisch is a director, actor, and dancer based in Washington, DC.
As a director, Allison has collaborated on the development of the new plays Pride of Doves by Douglas Robinson (Director) and Dhana and the Rosebuds by Federica Cellini (Asst. Director).
She aims to create a visceral experience for the audience through stark imagery and organic movement of the body in conjunction with the kinetic use of materials such as sand, wind, and water. She enjoys playing with the distortions of emphasis found in expressionistic and impressionistic theatre. She draws inspiration from the works of Pina Bausch, Yaël Farber, and Sarah Ruhl, among others.
Additionally, Allison regularly joins the team of Voices Unbarred, a theatre organization that elevates the voices of incarcerated and returned citizens, to direct performances presented for the community.
As an actor, Allison has worked with an array of theatre companies throughout Washington, DC.
She was recognized on DCMTA's Best of 2015 list in the category of “Best Leading Actress in a Play”, for her performance as Margaret in Thelma Theatre's Princess Margaret.
Allison was a dancer with K.G. Dance Company, and uses her dance training as a jumping off point for her performing and directing work.
She is a graduate of the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in Washington, DC, where she went on to complete Joy Zinoman’s Directing Intensive in 2019. She holds a BFA in Theatre with a Minor in Dance from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She has further training with Synetic Theatre Company, Washington Improv Theatre, and Maryland Youth Ballet.
